Hello, hello, I hope that this finds you at the end of a good day. I don’t really like Mondays which is why I thought I might do my happy posts on a Monday so that I can think back to the lovely things that made me smile in the week before.
So, here are my happies from this week:
1. Homegrown marrow
Is there a difference between marrows and courgettes or is a marrow just a big courgette? Our courgette plant hasn’t had a single courgette on it – but we’ve picked two brilliant marrows and there are more on the way! Either we were sold the wrong plant, or we’re missing that crucial courgette-picking stage?! Anyway, we picked this beauty early last week – just over 5lb! I’m not sure what we’ll do with it yet. The first of our crop was a little smaller, so I made baked stuffed marrow for dinner on Monday – bit of a 70s throwback, but it really was delicious!
2. Tulip mosaic
You may remember months ago that Lucy shared a gorgeous post over at Attic24 all about tulips and her new mosaic made by the talented Felicity at Just Mosaics. I couldn’t get that picture out of my mind – as some of you realised when I attempted to make my own version from paint colour charts!
Anyway, last week I finally decided that I needed to have a proper Felicity tulip mosaic! and here it is. She’s doing this lovely pinks and purples version now and I completely adore it. I’m going to hang it in our kitchen and the pale blue background picks out the other pale blue items in the room perfectly. Yippeee!
3. An afternoon out
Saturday we had the most loveliest of days out. We were given an afternoon tea voucher from one of our bridesmaids as part of our wedding gift but it had taken us almost a year to cash it in!
Mmm we had such a great afternoon sipping tea and eating the selection of finger sandwiches, cakes and scones. The scones were my favourite (jam first, right?!). We didn’t leave a bit! (oh, except that bit of lettuce and one burnt raisin)
We bought these lilies in Tesco last week from the reduced section for £1.20. They’ve been absolutely amazing – still going strong! A most excellent rescue.
I hope you’re having a very happy week,

I always enjoy your “happy posts” Jones, thank you! That tea looks wonderful, and what a great idea for a gift. I may have to do something similar, I know my dad and my sister would really enjoy something like that. Something to investigate next time I am in the UK. I have managed to convert several of my friends here in Texas to English tea (hot! with milk!) and I love to have them over to enjoy tea and cakes and use my pretty English china.
Thanks Christine – the tea was fab! It was a Red Letter Days one – you can buy them online and it gives you a choice of venues to pick from 🙂

The afternoon tea looked delicious, and it obviously was!
Completely scrummy! We practically rolled out of there 😉

Lovely! My mum says courgettes are mini marrows but some varieties are designed to be more one than the other… Courgettes can become marrows virtually overnight, they are very sneaky
You are right there – sneaky is just the right word for them! One minute not even a small courgette, next minute giant marrow!! Luckily I like both 🙂
