Baby boy blanket

I can’t quite believe how long it has taken me to get round to writing this – not as in writing this actual post, but the delay in writing about what is probably the best thing I have ever made. And it was a long time in the making, believe me!

You may remember me talking about this a few months ago, fireside. You could just see it there on my lap, growing ever so slowly – my first ever blanket.

And this was a very special blanket, as it was a present for my friend’s (still yet to be born) little boy. Which is probably why it has taken me so long to tell you about it: I wanted to wait until I had given it to her before revealing it here in all it’s blankety goodness. And then Christmas got in the way, and then L I F E… but here I am, and are you ready for it? Here is the Baby Boy Blanket. Ta daaaaah!

I am so proud of this blanket. And I really enjoyed making it – not the initial few rows which were fiddly and rather made me want to stop actually – but I definitely got into it, and it felt good to have a big goal to work towards. It was my first Big Project.

Do you know I only took up crochet at the beginning of July last year? Part of the reason for learning was so that I could make this blanket. I’m still not sure how I managed to give it away, I really did become quite attached to it after all those hours in the making. Anyway, it was the perfect present for my gorgeous friend whose little baby boy is due in just 10 days!

For those of you who like a bit of crochet stats, the blanket measured ~36″ x 36″. Which is 175 rows of crochet goodness, plus 3 rows of edging (dc, tr, dc).

The pattern was one I scribbled down from a friend’s book – I didn’t follow it entirely to the letter. I followed the basic stitch pattern (which gave a loose-ish weave), but the sequence of the rows was just what came to me at the time.

Just gorgeous (if I do say so myself!). I can’t wait to see the little fella bundled up in it…

Only problem is, I’ll be needing another Big Project now. Any ideas?

Jones x

Edited to add: Thank you for your lovely comments. Beautiful baby boy arrived on Saturday 29th January!
