Stir Up Sunday

Just a quick post today to see if you knew that yesterday was Stir Up Sunday? I’d never heard of it, until last week on The Pink Whisk. Stir Up Sunday (the last Sunday before Advent) was traditionally the day that the Christmas cake or pudding would be made, and everyone in the family would have a stir of the mix, making a secret wish as they stirred. Traditionally the pudding would be stirred from East to West to honour the Three Wise Men who visited the baby Jesus, and would contain 13 ingredients to represent Jesus and the disciples. Sadly I made my Christmas cake earlier in the week, and I’m not attempting a Christmas pudding this year, so there was no Stir Up Sunday fun for me – although I did feed the cake with a bit more booze!

About thehouseofjones

Hello! Thanks for visiting, it's lovely to see you! I'm Jones, I'm 31, and I live with my husband (The Bert) and chinchilla (JB) in Gloucestershire. When I'm not at work I love crochet, sewing, cooking, baking, taking photos and dabbling in a bit of gardening and grow-your-own, and this is what I write about mainly. That and the general chit chat of life. So, take a look around, comment if you'd like, just make yourself feel at home really!
